Team Spotlight: Shannon Moultrie

Shannon Moultrie grew up and went to college in California around Fresno and the Bay Area. You can probably imagine what a culture shock it has been moving to Atlanta. Luckily, she always has an excuse to visit California with plenty of family still there: seven siblings—including three sets of twins—and more than 20 nieces and nephews!

Although she knew she eventually wanted to work in the legal field, Shannon ended up in corporate finance for 17 years. She truly put her undergraduate degree in accounting to work! Moving up from accounts payable to supervising and ultimately, to a financial controller, Shannon even worked in Aruba at a prominent medical school. Once her two children were grown, she knew it was time to follow her dream and make the switch to law.

Shannon went back for a second undergraduate degree. At Clayton State, she majored in legal studies with a double minor in criminal justice and business—all while working full time. She then earned her Juris Master from Emory Law School.

Thinking she would wind up in family or criminal law, Shannon was surprised when she learned more about personal injury law. “Thanks to a headhunter,” she says, “I saw how much I could help people within the personal injury arena. I decided to give it a try and fell in love with it.”

She soon found her way to Litner + Deganian. Shannon values a healthy work-life balance and has a lot of interesting hobbies, so it’s no surprise that she’s a perfect fit for Litner + Deganian and their unique culture. And the feeling is mutual. Shannon’s colleagues respect her deep background in business as well as the fact that she’s a licensed mediator with the Supreme Court of Georgia. She uses her mediation skills daily to help clients and troubleshoot issues.

Outside the office, Shannon maintains a vegan lifestyle and stays active with Crossfit workouts as well as various dance classes, including salsa, bachata and kizomba. She also loves traveling internationally. So far, her favorite trip has been Southeast Asia, where she hiked the jungle in Thailand. We can’t wait to hear about her upcoming trip to Europe and what adventures she will bring back to the office!
